Puntledge River dam – June 20, 2018

Destination:  Join us for a paddle on the Puntledge River from the Comox Lake dam down to the second dam.

Date:  June 20, 2018

Time:  We will launch at 5:00 PM. We need to be off the river and packed up by 8:00 PM as the parking lot gets locked at 8:00 PM.

Meeting Place:  Take Lake Trail from Courtenay heading south/west and follow the signs toward the Gun Club on Comox Logging Road. At the Rod and Gun Club gate, stay on Comox Logging Rd for about 1 km until you cross the bridge over the Puntledge River;  turn into the parking lot on the right.

Description:  This is one of Frank’s favourite paddles. It is about a 7 km return on the river. There are a few shallow spots and a couple of places with weak current so it will be easy to paddle back up the river against the current. There are pools where we may stop for a swim and some bays that are fun to paddle into and negotiate. Wear your swimsuit.  Being on the river means that wind does not usually have much effect and we can continue in the rain.

Length of trip:  2 to 3 hours.

Rating: 1 Day Paddle –Easy (for details http://comoxvalleypaddlers.ca/trip-ratings)

Coordinator:  Tom Moffat tom.moffat99@gmail.com  ph. 250-465-1365

Max People:  not a concern

Notes:  The launch site is a popular swimming hole so there may be a number of people there if it is a nice day. We may have to negotiate with someone for a few feet of shore space to launch our boats. If it is busy when you arrive, just leave your boat on the lawn and we will work as a group to help people to launch their boats in the most efficient way so as to not bother the people on the beach.
