Meeting Place: Toquart Bay Campground #1

Description: We will have 5 days of paddling in the beautiful waters of Toquart Bay and the Pipestem Inlet with many different destinations to paddle to, including going up rivers with waterfalls at the end. There will be some open water crossings (approx. 2 km) weather permitting.

Length of Trip (hours/days): We will try to be on the water by 9:30am and paddle 5 to 6 hours with pit stops and lunch breaks in between. This is later in the season and the daylight hours are less so we would like to get back to camp in time to relax and have supper before dark.

Max. People: no limit

Other Conditions: This is BEAR COUNTRY so clean camping is a must. The launch beach area is very kayak friendly in a protected cove right below the campsites so there is a very short carrying distance. There is no drinking water or power at this campground so you have to bring your own water. Also there is firewood for sale at the office where you check in.

Notes: To make your campsite reservation go to www.secretbeachcampground.com and fill out the form on the ‘contact us’ window. You have to put your name, address, phone number, arrival date, and departure date. Directions to the campsite are on the website. Also mention that you are with the Comox Valley Paddlers so, if possible, they will try to group us together. If you decide to join us please notify us by e-mail so we can have an idea of the numbers and to contact you for a pre-trip meeting that we like to have to go over any concerns you might have.

UPDATE:  It has come to my attention via the campground manager that the beach that we were to launch our kayaks and canoes will not be available to us due to eel grass conservation measures. We will have to drive to the beach used for the Broken Group paddlers which is only a 5 minute drive from our campsite. There may be a onetime fee of $15.00 to use this beach and if there are any questions about this please call me at 250-334-1948. Lem Mamers
