Date: Wednesday, July 4th, 2018   (***launch time is earlier than usual***)

Launch Time: 4 pm sharp (remember to bring your CPC decal for free launching)

PLEASE arrive early and BE READY to launch at 4 pm!

*** NOTE: this is an earlier than usual launch time for our Wednesday evening paddles

Low Tide:   1.9 m (6.4 ft) occurs at 16:13

Meeting Place: Union Bay Boat Launch

Description: Late afternoon paddle from Union Bay boat launch to Tree Island and back. Each crossing of Baynes Sound (~2.5 nm) should take approximately 50 minutes.

The paddle will include spending about 1 hour exploring Tree island and enjoying the beautiful white sandy beaches. Please bring food with you (and perhaps bring extra to share with the other paddlers). The tide will be low so we will not try to paddle around the island.  The paddle back to Union Bay will start at around 6 pm and we expect to arrive back at around 7 or 7:30pm. After loading our boats we can meet up again at Roy’s Town Pub in Royston to quench our thirsts (optional).

Paddling Time: Estimated at about 50-60 mins in each direction (2.5 nm).

Trip Rating: 2a (for more details go comoxvalleypaddlers.ca/trip-ratings)

It is recommended that paddlers be trained for “wet exits” and “re-entering” your boat.

Paddlers need to feel comfortable crossing Baynes Sound, especially if we encounter some chop and/or wind.

Notes: The island has an outhouse. No water is available. Each paddler needs to carry adequate water given the conditions and duration of the paddle.
