Launch: From the shoreline. NOTE that 1 PM = “Paddles in the Water” time.
Meeting Place: Fanny Bay Government Dock
Located on Highway 19A just across from Station Road. It is about 2 km south of Buckley Bay or 1 km north of the Fanny Bay Inn.
Note: There is no washroom at the launch spot. The nearest washrooms are at Buckley bay or the Fanny Bay Inn. There is an outhouse at the Ships Point stop (bring TP).
Description:
Length of Trip (Return) is about 4.2 nm = approximately 45 to 60 minutes each way. We will paddle south from the Fanny Bay government dock along the coast of Ships Point and land at Ships Point Park. The stop will be long enough to walk around, stretch and enjoy the snacks you have packed. There is only one bench so you might want to bring a chair or cushion to sit on. We will take the same route back to our starting point. Gently ebbing tide throughout the paddle.
Tides (@ Denman Island): 3.4 m High @ 12:15 pm; Low of 2.95 @ 4:15 pm
Trip Rating: Level 2a – Day Paddle–Intermediate (due to potential wind).
This is a shoreline paddle however the rating is set at 2a because the wind can come up quickly in this channel. You also need to look out for the rock gardens, so, if you are not comfortable with our Trip Rating, Level 2a (as detailed on the Comox paddler’s website), please self-select out of this paddle. Other Conditions:
This paddle is wind and weather dependent. There are rock gardens along the west shore of Ships Point. On Sundays, there is a likelihood of increased pleasure boat traffic. Consider enjoying supper at the historic Fanny Bay Inn which is renoun for its Baynes Sound Oyster selections.
