Destination: Comox Lake Partial Loop – North Shoreline Start
Date: Monday, August 12, 2024
Time: Paddles in the water at 10 am (Arrive at parking area between 9:15 and 9:30)
Description: Comox Lake Shoreline and crossing. (~10-11 nm)
This is a freshwater shoreline paddle that starts on the north shore near the Comox Lake Bluffs Ecological Reserve. Comox Lake is pristine and fed by the majestic Comox Glacier. The lake is over 18 km long with an average depth of 61 m. Assuming the wind cooperates we’ll do an approximate 0.75 nm crossing to the south shore and wind back past the rock climbing wall, public beach and campground, Perseverance Creek, Coal Beach and the Rod and Gun Club. The trip can easily be shortened based on conditions.
Directions: From Courtenay head west on Lake Trail Road. At the stop sign turn left onto Comox Logging Road. Drive past the Rod & Gun Club turnoff (on your left). As soon as you crossover the bridge (at the dam) park on the side of the road. PLEASE NOTE there is no cell service in this area and paddlers have been known to take a wrong turn and get lost so take a look below to find the launch site and plan ahead!
Meeting Place: Immediately across the bridge on the side of the road.
*** Park on the road – do not go thru the yellow gate down to the dam parking lot.
Launch Site: Launching from the lakeshore upstream of BC Hydro’s Dam. A short “carry in” over a decent forest trail is required. No launch fee.
Length of Trip (hours/days): 4.5 to 5 hours
Rating: 1 ‘ Day Paddle Easy’ (details given on our website under “trip ratings”)

Max. People: everyone welcome (will break into smaller groups if necessary)
Access: Short walk along a dirt track. People will work together to get their boats to the water’s edge.
Weather: If it’s too windy, we can do a relaxed paddle on the Puntledge River from the dam to the dam.
Additional Notes: An outhouse is located close to where we will park (down the road past the yellow gate) and also close to the public swim beach on the south shore, however only a few boats might be able to land. Pack a lunch.
The Pot Luck Social is tonight at the Lion’s Den in Comox.
