Please note that due to Covid 19 it is mandatory to pre-register for every paddle. If you wish to attend, send e-mail to the trip co-ordinator by 6 p.m. the day before the paddle.

Time: 2:00 pm – 3:30 PM

Location: Saratoga Beach. We’ll meet on the beach directly out from Saratoga Beach Park Access on Seaman Rd. This can be a popular area, with limited parking… so please try to carpool with your wet exit buddy. If that parking lot is full then try the one at Eyre Road… you’ll be 100 metres or so north of the other parking. Check Google Maps to confirm.

Description: Unlike “Safety Day”, where there are qualified instructors to lead the groups, this will be an informal opportunity to practice doing some wet exits at the beginning of the season with other people around. I suggest that people come with “pod buddies”, from their households, to spot and assist each other. Because Saratoga Beach is such a gradual and soft beach it’s easy for your pod buddy to stand in the water beside you to help out. Whether you know how to wet exit or not this should be a good opportunity to learn and practice.

This will be about mid-way to the peak of a flood tide. So be mindful of where you leave your kayak on shore.

Note: The water will be cold so it’s essential that you have appropriate immersion gear, preferably a dry suit but at least a good wet suit, and something like a neoprene hood for your head.

Maximum: 10 people, or 5 kayaks. Even though the beach is large it can be quite busy, so I’d prefer to keep the numbers low to avoid crowding.
