Launch at 11:30 AM = “Paddles in the Water” time.
Shoreline launch with limited parking (room for ~10-12 cars). Can unload here
then park wherever you can find a spot and walk back.
Wednesday, September 16th – Meet @ 10:30am on Deep Bay Drive in Deep Bay

Shoreline launch with limited parking (room for ~10-12 cars). Can unload here
then park wherever you can find a spot and walk back
Description:
Paddle across Baynes Sound to the south side of Denman Island. Paddle
between Denman and Chrome Island with its picturesque light house then
paddle across Lambert Channel to Hornby Island. Plan will be to stop at Heron
Rocks Camping Cooperative.
Depending on the group and the weather, this paddle may continue on a bit
further along the coast of Hornby Island. Return home by the same route,
arriving at Deep Bay around 4 pm.
Length of Trip: ~ 4 hours (~8 nm)
(2 short crossings in each direction + time spent on Hornby)
Rating: #2 – Day Paddle Intermediate = SISKA’s “Energized Paddle”

Other Conditions: Potential for moderate SE winds around the south end of
Denman, Chrome Island and when crossing Lambert Channel. There is a
weather station on Chrome Island to check the wind speed and direction.
Trip could be cancelled if high winds are expected.
Proper immersion clothing required.
Equivalent Paddle Canada Level 1 ability – practiced rescues in 2026.
Currents and recreational boat traffic expected on all crossings.

Washrooms are available at Deep Bay Marina; no facility available on Hornby.
Please pack a lunch to enjoy on Hornby.
The Chrome Island Light House has been operating continuously since 1891
and is one of the few remaining manned lighthouses along the BC coast. The
first Keepers were the Piercy’s who raised 10 children on the rock – an area of
less than 2 acres.
