Destination: Kitty Coleman Park to Seal Bay Park
Date: Wed August 26th
Time: Arrive around 5:00 and be ready to launch at 5:30 PM (sun sets at 8:14 PM)
Coordinator: Dave Lapointe (davel@island.net) Cell: 250 898-7048 call or text
Meeting Place: Boat Launch in the park (not the one at the end of Whitaker Rd).
Description: Easy paddle along the shoreline… often eagles and seals can be seen. The shore at Seal Bay is a bit rocky so, depending on the weather, we may not take a break there. Low tide is at 6:30, but is 3.7 metres, so it should be possible to skim over the large rocks.
Length of Trip (hours/days): 7 – 8 km round trip. 2 – 2 1/2 hours
Maximum People: No Limit
Other Conditions: Suitable for sea/touring kayaks with standard recommended safety gear. See Trip Ratings on Comox Valley Paddlers website for detailed info on Level 1 Day Paddle. This may be upgraded to 2A if it’s windy. Be sure to check the website or FaceBook page on the day of the paddle.
Notes: We should be able to launch from the second boat ramp (inside the park rather than the boat launch at the end of Whitaker Rd). Low tide is at 6:52 PM and is 3.7 metres, but I recall that more than 3 metres is enough to use that boat ramp. There is a ramp fee of $5 per kayak
