Description (Intermediate Day Paddle – Level 2a):  SISKA’s “Energized” Paddle.

After launching from the Union Bay boat ramp area, we will paddle approximately 1 nm across Baynes Sound towards Denman Island then paddle northward along Denman’s shoreline passing Henry Bay to arrive at the beach on Tree Island (~3 nm total). Paddlers not wanting to circumnavigate will go ashore at the beautiful white sandy beach and explore Tree Island on foot for approximately 1 hour and possibly go for a swim.

Paddlers can extend the length of this paddle by either circumnavigating just Tree Island which will add ~2 nm, OR to circumnavigate both Tree Island AND Seal Islets which will add ~3 nm.

Paddlers who have circumnavigated will return to the beach on Tree Island to regroup with the others. After a short stop for those who just arrived, everyone will depart Tree Island as a group at roughly 3:00 pm and paddle directlyback to Union Bay (~2.5 nm). Return time is estimated at 3:45 pm.

Distance: Tree Island and back is a total distance of approximately 6.5 nm.

To circumnavigate Tree Island the total distance is approximately 9.5 nm; to circumnavigate both Tree Island and Seal Islets makes the distance approximately 11 nm.

Parking: Lots of free parking is available near to the boat ramp. Park on highway side and NOT in the longer spots which are intended for boat trailers.

Tides: Low tide of 1.7 m @ 6:50 AM; High tide of 4 m @ 3:01 pm; Next Low tide of 3.8 m @ 18:32

Flooding on the way over then very little change during our paddle home (tide is ~4 m from 2 thru 5 pm).

We will be crossing Baynes Sound so paddlers must dress for the water temperature, have a seaworthy kayak, spray skirt and all the required safety gear. All paddlers MUST have practised their rescue skills this season. This paddle is weather and wind dependent so check our website, FB and e-mails for any lastminute updates or cancellations.
