Limited parking; shoreline launch (mud & rocks); short “carry” required”.
An additional “carry” of ~400 ft required if using street parking.
Launch Time: 10:30 am = “Paddles in the Water”
*Arrive early enough so you can BE READY TO LAUNCH @ 10:30 am
Destination: Explore the Comox Harbour (Goose Spit; Royston Wrecks, etc.)
Duration of Trip: 2 hours (~ 4 nm)
Tides:Tide @ launch 11 ft (paddle in the harbour during “Low High” tide period)
Tide @ return 11.6’
Participants: Maximum 12 boats/group; the more relaxed paddlers launch 1st
– additional groups will be launched in 10 min intervals
– each group will be assigned their own “lead and sweep”
Rating: 2 “Day Paddle” – Intermediate (min Paddle Canada Level 2 skills)
Must be comfortable with an open water crossing of ~ 0.9 nm

Description: Paddle past the mouth of the Comox Harbour (watching for boat traffic); head to “Little Mexico” on Goose Spit. Paddle ~0.9 nm across open water to the Royston Wrecks. Paddle the shoreline towards the estuary before paddling back across open water towards Robb Bluffs (below the Old St. Joseph’s Hospital). Paddle the shoreline back to the launch site (watching out for rocks).
Social: After the paddle, Wilf and Helen invite everyone to their home for a social gathering from ~1–3 pm. Please consider bringing snacks that can be shared at the social. These can be dropped off prior to launching. You are welcome and encouraged to change into warm, dry clothes after the paddle (including any pirates’ costumes).

Notes: Dress appropriately for the water temperature & conditions. Winds might pick up on the open water crossings; potential for some chop. VHF radios encouraged.
If the number of participants exceeds the available parking, paddlers may be asked to form another group and launch from the Comox Marina then paddle the shoreline for a short distance to meet up with the first group. A separate sign up sheet, “lead and sweep” will be arranged.
