Trip Coordinator’s Description

Date: Wed, May 29th, 2019

Destination: Union Bay to Tree Island

Launch Time: 6 pm SHARP!!!

PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY and BE READY to launch your boat @ 6 pm

Tides: We will be paddling during a “high low” tide period.

Expect a 10.5 ft tide at launch; and a 9 ft tide when returning

Meeting Place: Union Bay boat launch

Description: Our paddle will leave the Union Bay boat launch and head directly towards Tree Island across the open water of Baynes Sound (~2.5 nm). We will spend up to 30 minutes on Tree Island and start our paddle back to Union Bay at 7:30 pm. Coming back we will paddle south along the coast of Denman Island until we are almost across from Union Bay then paddle straight across. We expect to arrive back at the UB boat launch at around 8:30 pm. After loading our boats we may want to meet up again at Roy’s Town Pub in Royston to quench our thirsts (optional).

Paddling Time: Estimated at about 50 mins in each direction.

Trip Rating: 2a (for more details go to “http://comoxvalleypaddlers.ca/trip-ratings“)

It is strongly recommended that paddlers be comfortable paddling in open water and trained for “wet exits” and “re-entering” your boat.

Max. People: everyone welcome!!!

Notes: Remember to bring and display your CPC decal for free launching at the UB boat launch! Tree Island has an outhouse. No water is available. Each paddler needs to carry adequate water given the conditions and duration of the paddle. It should be sunny so bring a hat and/or sunglasses and wear sunscreen!
