Park in spots near the highway, NOT in the longer waterfront spots which are
for boat trailers. At the water, DO NOT fill the entire shoreline area with
kayaks. Place them along the righthand side of the unpaved launch area so that
boats can still access the shore to launch or dock. A port-a-potty is available at
the UB Boat Ramp.
NOTE: Kayak launch fee of $5 cash to be placed in provided envelopes.
***CPC Members launch for free – if you bring your decal!
Description:
Paddle ~1.5 nm across Baynes Sound to Denman Island then paddle north
along the shoreline past Henry Bay. From here paddlers may choose a shorter
paddle by heading straight to the beach on Tree Island and spend time
exploring or a longer paddle by crossing the sand bar and going around Tree
Island and/or Seal Islets in a counter clockwise direction before landing at the
beach. This will add an extra ~3 nm or about 1 hour.
Total distances are approximately 6.5 nm to the beach and back or up to 9.5 nm
if you paddle fully around the island.
If the group is comfortable, we’ll paddle diagonally straight back to Union Bay,
arriving at ~3-4 pm.
Length of Trip: ~ 4-5 hours (6.5-9.5 nm)
Rating: #2a – Day Paddle Intermediate = SISKA’s “Energized Paddle”
